I don't think anyone looks good with perfectly done hair, that is, except for models and beauty pageant queens like Honey Boo Boo. So, I appreciate when a woman's locks have a certain lived-in feel that make her appear polished without trying too hard. But when this look crosses over into bird's nest hair territory (as we saw backstage during New York Fashion Week), we question whether it pushes the envelope or really is a total mess.
For Vera Wang's spring 2013 show, Frederic Fekkai lead stylist Paul Hanlon used Strong Hold Volume Mousse, then lots of backcombing and brushing to build a dry, fabric like texture for what he coined "a poetic take on weathered hair." Wrapping strands around the head like a turban and securing with bobby pins helped to create a tousled finish. Models hit the runway at Chadwick Bell donning neutral, boxy pieces and a wispy bouffant hairstyle which BeautyMVP reports is called the "broken wheat" look. From the front, the hair appeared somewhat pulled together thanks to a satin headband. However, the hair accessory was only holding back a loose bun that was tucked in and piled high. Meanwhile, at Ruffian the disheveled 'dos took a rockabilly spin with super teased pompadours. Not blow-drying the hair completely through helped to achieve a matte consistency.
