Jim Addleberger, Pittsburgh Teacher, Sucker-Punched By Teen Student (VIDEO)

WATCH: Teen Brutally Attacks Teacher In Alley

An English teacher in Pittsburgh was treated at a hospital for cuts and bruises after he was violently sucker-punched by a teen student while passing through an alley last Thursday afternoon, in what a police detective is calling a "sick, cowardly act," The Inquisitr reports.

Footage from an overhead security camera shows Pittsburgh Creating and Performing Arts school (CAPA) teacher Jim Addlespurger, 50 years old, walking toward the alley's exit just as a group of teens approach from the opposite direction. From nowhere, the teen closest to him throws a right hook, reportedly knocking Addlespurger unconscious as his head smashes against a curb, KDKA reports. The teens walk away laughing to one another.

According to the Associated Press, police say the teens do not attend Addlespurger's school and believe the footage will be enough to identify them, especially now that the video is public.

Addlespurger teaches 10th and 12th graders at CAPA, WTAE reports. He is now recovering at home and has yet to comment on the incident.

A similarly brutal incident made the news last week when New York teacher John Webster announced plans to sue the city after he was allegedly beaten by a 6-year-old student. The boy, who stands at 4 feet 2 inches, allegedly injured the 220-pound gym teacher's ankle and knee, forcing Webster to wear braces on his legs.
