The American Library Association's Teen Read Week is this week, October 14-20. To celebrate, the Los Angeles Public Library is hosting dozens of teen authors for readings, signings, and Q&A sessions at our branches around the city, and for a teen lit mini-con, YAy for YA! on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Central Library.

We asked the authors participating in Teen Read Week to tell us about their favorite teen book. Their picks include everything from classics like The Catcher in the Rye and Anne of Green Gables to more modern groundbreakers like Speak and The Hunger Games.

Here are all their favorites, along with where the authors will be appearing during Teen Read Week. A complete schedule of authors and panels is available at http://www.lapl.org/ya/events/.

Teen Read Week is the national adolescent literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), and it's a time where librarians encourage teens to read for the fun of it, to become involved in their local library, and to show teens, parents, and teachers what the library has to offer.

Come to an author event at the Los Angeles Public Library this week, and check out one (or more) of these excellent teen and tween reads.
