New York Fashion Week: Blue Eyeshadow At Jeremy Scott, Kate Spade And More (PHOTOS)

This Isn't Your Granny's Blue Eyeshadow

For many us, the mention of blue eyeshadow instantly brings to mind images of secretary Mimi from "The Drew Carey Show" with her heavily plastered aqua eye makeup that stretched all the way up to her brows. Or it takes us back to those good old days when grandma would spend hours in front of the mirror getting done up à la Elizabeth Taylor. But backstage at the New York Fashion Week spring 2013 shows, we witnessed makeup artists swiping on the controversial shade in sexy to shocking finishes.

An "Arabian chic" look was created for models at Jeremy Scott by blending MAC Cosmetics eye shadows like Freshwater (a deep ocean blue), Espresso (a rich cocoa) and Goldmine (a shimmering gold) into an iridescent, blue smokey eye. Jouer national makeup stylist Neil Scibelli used mint green and aqua shadow at Kate Spade to haze above a stark white winged liner for extra pop. While the bright blue lids at Monique Lhuillier faded into a softer pastel below the brow bone. Girls at Josie Natori and Jenny Packham batted their lashes and revealed a singular stroke of blue winged eyeliner. But beauty legend Pat McGrath turned the trend on its head for Anna Sui by blanketing electric blue eyeshadow in between graphic black lines.
