Chicago's high-profile, heavily experimental restaurant Next has been touring the world one cuisine at a time through its rotating menus focused on Thailand, el Bulli, and Sicily.

On Saturday, the first plates off the "Kyoto" menu were served to a lucky few ticket-holders after weeks of buildup that included the release of a three-part series of film noir-style promotional videos that frame the Japanese aesthetic central to the restaurant's current season.

The Kyoto tasting menu (also known as a kaiseki) will be served through the end of 2012, according to Next.

Fellow Chicago celebrity chef Graham Elliot tweeted a photo of the Kyoto kaiseki menu late Friday night, which includes dishes centered on sashimi, roasted fig, wasabi leaf and more.

Hat tip to Eater Chicago.
