A 3.5-magnitude earthquake shook many out of bed early Friday morning. According to USGS, the quake's epicenter was in Beverly Hills and occurred at 12:03am.

This is the second shallow earthquake centered in Beverly Hills in the last week.
There have been no reports of damage, and Beverly Hills Patch reports that more than 4,000 people felt the quake and in regions as north as Valencia and as south as Costa Mesa.
It has been a rocky summer in Southern California. A 4.5-magnitude earthquake, followed by a 2.0, hit on August 8, 2012. Then a 5.5-magnitude quake, trailed by at least 30 3.5-magnitude aftershocks jolted people around on August 26, 2012, pushing 20 mobile homes at a trailer park off their foundations. A "swarm" of quakes hit Southern California on August 27, 2012. Are we nervous yet?
Residents and seismologists alike have questioned if California is due for a big earthquake. In 2011, California Watch reported:
Fault lines along rim of the Pacific Plate are due for a rupture. For instance, the last large event along the San Andreas fault in Southern California was in 1847. And research indicates that fault slips every 160 years.
This is the second shallow earthquake to strike Beverly Hills in the middle of the night in the last few days. On September 3, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake was reported in Beverly Hills. Friday's early morning quake was around the same size, ranking in at a magnitude of 3.5.

UPDATE:
A larger earthquake, recorded as a magnitude-4.0, hit the Fresno County area at 6:22am Friday morning, reports The Associated Press. A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck the same area one minute later.
