Doug Gotterba, John Travolta's Alleged Former Gay Lover, Claims To Have Had 6-Year Affair With Actor (VIDEO)

John Travolta's Alleged Former Gay Lover Claims Actor's "Sexual Appetite Was Insatiable"

A pilot who claims to have been John Travolta’s gay lover has reportedly spilled the beans to the tabloids about their sexual past.

In an exclusive interview with the National Enquirer, 62-year-old Doug Gotterba, who allegedly dated the "Saturday Night Fever" star for six years in the 1980s, has come forward with explicit details of his relationship with the 58-year-old actor.

According to RadarOnline, Gotterba -- who reportedly was Travolta's personal pilot -- claims in the interview the actor's "sexual appetite was insatiable, that he wanted to make a sex tape, and that he enjoyed cavorting with multiple male partners at a time."

Gotterba has also claimed that the married movie star had admitted in 1992 that he was still attracted to men -- months after he had tied the knot with actress Kelly Preston.

“They’d just gotten back from the Church of Scientology’s Celebrity Center in Hollywood when I arrived and John asked me to go with him for a walk on the beach,” Gotterba reportedly told the supermarket tabloid.

“We were making small talk when suddenly, I blurted out, ‘So, John, tell me. Now that you’re married, do you still prefer men –- or women?’ He looked me straight in the eye and said, ‘Well, Doug, I still prefer men.' I said, ‘Okay.’ And that’s the last time we saw each other.”

Gotterba's tell-all interview comes less than three months after Travolta's former assistant spilled the beans about the couple's alleged relationship.

"We both worked for John at the same time. Doug is a wonderful guy and we are still good friends. He told me that John was gay and they had a sexual relationship," Joan Edwards told the National Enquirer in June.

Travolta, who is still married to Preston, has been plagued by rumors about his sexuality for years.

In recent months, the celebrity Scientologist's sexuality became a hot topic again when he was accused by several men of sexually harassing them.

Travolta has long remained mum about his sexuality -- and though he has denied the accusations, he has also yet to speak openly about the allegations of sexual impropriety.

Bloggers for The Huffington Post have sounded off about Travolta's sexuality in the past.

In a blog post entitled, "Travolta, Gay or Not Gay... Why Should We Care?", comedian Juliet Jeske explored the question of whether or not the actor's love life has an impact on a wider community.

She commented that though Travolta has the right to keep the details of his sexual life private, his behavior may prove damaging to his family and the gay community.

"Someone's sexual orientation is his or her own business. Travolta should be free to love and have sex with whomever he wants and not need to broadcast it to the world. However, if he is hiding his true nature and living in the closet, he is setting a horrible example for young gay men and women. Moreover, if he is using a straight spouse as cover, he is sending the message that to survive, you must hide and take others down with you," she wrote in May.

Taking a different angle, Michelangelo Signorile, editor-at-large of HuffPost Gay Voices, wrote in June that Travolta's sexual saga may be important in how it reflects the still difficult and painful process of coming out:

Since then there's been allegation after allegation, accusation after accusation, scandal after scandal, as if time just froze for Travolta. Here we are, having moved into a different world, where courts are ruling that saying someone is gay is not defamation, where the president of the United States supports gay marriage, where homosexuality is slowly going from being acceptably scandalous to just being that mundane fact of life, and where gay celebrities are coming out -- or rather not closeting themselves in the first place. But the Travolta saga -- whatever the truth may be -- reminds us of how fear-inducing and traumatizing the issue of homosexuality always was, and, sadly, still is for many.
