Trojan Vibrator Giveaway: Vibrations 'Pleasure Carts' Deployed Across Manhattan In Massive Promotion

Trojan To Distribute 10,000 Free Sex Toys Over Two-Day New York Event

Talk about buzz-worthy news: Trojan Vibrations, the well-known condom-maker's personal massager line, plans to hand out 10,000 free vibrators at locations throughout Manhattan this Wednesday and Thursday.

Deploying two purple, hot dog-style "Pleasure Carts," Trojan reps will be distributing 5,000 of the Tri-Phoria device, which retails for $40, and 5,000 of the Pulse, which retails for $30.

Trojan is heralding the two-day event as the "largest vibrator giveaway of its kind," according to a PR Newswire press release.

Updated locations for both Pleasure Cart A and B will be posted on Trojan's Facebook page. According to the page, Wednesday's locations include the Meatpacking District, East Village and more.

The Trojan brand, a division of Church & Dwight Company, has been around for 90 years, according to its website.

Since then, however, the company has been advertising the products aggressively, spending $10.5 million in advertising on the Vibrations line alone, the newspaper reports.

This promotion is part of a campaign to normalize vibrator use.

“What we’re doing is taking something like a hot dog cart that is so everyday and so mainstream,” Bruce Weiss, vice president for marketing at Trojan, told the Times. “... We’re showing people that vibrators are mainstream.”

Trojan's research points to a potentially lucrative market for the devices.

In studies financed by the condom maker and published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2009, 52.5 percent of women and 44.8 percent of men have used vibrators, while just over 40 percent of both male and female respondents also report having used them with their partners.

Conducted by researchers at the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, the study affirmed "what many doctors and therapists have known for decades," Debby Herbenick, associate director of the center for Sexual Health Promotion, said in a university news release.

"Vibrator use is common, it's linked to positive sexual function such as desire and ease of orgasm, and it's rarely associated with any side effects," she added.
