Olympics Nails: Missy Franklin, Serena Williams And More Athletes' Patriotic Manicures (PHOTOS)

Olympians Who Have Really Embraced Nail Art

As I watched 17-year-old swimming star Missy Franklin backstroke her way to win her first individual gold medal in the 100-meter race Monday night, I couldn't hold back the joy I felt when she flashed her Olympic nail art. Franklin's red and blue manicure (complete with American flag designs on each ring finger) brought back memories of Florence Griffith Joyner clutching her gold and silver track medals with six-inch patriotic nails.

While not many others have worn their nails quite as long since (Serena Williams has come close on the tennis court), we find it pretty inspiring to see so many athletes show off their personality through nail art. Click through the slideshow below to see the bold manicures worn by Olympians from Germany, Great Britain, France and more countries -- and vote on which designs you love the the best.

Meanwhile, go for the gold with this Olympic-inspired DIY nail art.
