Prostitute Allegedly Solicits Reporter During Police Interview

Those who illegally prostitute themselves for money typically avoid the glaring eyes of police and the media. It would, after all, be somewhat difficult to pick up a john with a newshawk or flatfoot on their heels. But, there are of course always exceptions to the rules, as a news station in Georgia recently discovered.

Savannah's WTOC was working on a story about the world's oldest profession last week. Specifically, the network was focused on a story about Sonya Gadson. The alleged prostitute was recently indicted on charges of prostitution and reckless conduct for not disclosing her HIV positive status to clients, police said.

WTOC's Don Logana met with Sgt. Keith Edwards, an undercover Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officer, in an area known for prostitution. As Logana interviewed Edwards, an alleged prostitute appeared to solicit business near the cars behind the men. Moments later she approached and identified herself as "Rhonda." When Logana explained what he was doing, Rhonda said, "I'm a prostitute, just out of prison, and back on the streets."

Rhonda went on to explain why she does, what she allegedly does and, apparently oblivious to the fact that she was standing next to a law enforcement officer, appears to solicit Logana. Camera's rolled as she asked him for $10 and then offered to go into his pants.

"The only way to make money in Savannah is to be a prostitute or a drug dealer," Rhonda said.

The entire conversation, which was captured by WTOC's cameras, can be seen in the video above or by clicking here.
