Josh Weed, Gay Mormon Husband And Father, Says He's Happily Married To A Woman

WATCH: Gay Mormon Father On His 'Real, Vibrant' Marriage To A Woman

A decade after tying the knot and starting a family, one devout Mormon father of three is opening up about his sexuality in a sure-to-be-controversial "Nightline" interview.

As ABC is reporting, Josh Weed came out publicly as gay in a 6,000-word blog posting on his website -- with his wife (and childhood sweetheart) Laurel "Lolly" Weed's blessing. "I am Mormon," wrote Josh. "I am married to a woman. I am happy every single day. My life is filled with joy. I have a wonderful sex life. And I’ve been married for ten years, and plan to be married for decades more to come to the woman of my dreams."

In both the interview and their blog, the couple offer seemingly frank answers to the countless questions Josh's admission generates. Calling himself a "traditionalist at heart," Josh -- who says he first came out to his parents at age 13 -- explains in the blog, "I wanted to raise children that were biologically the product of me and the one I love. Thankfully, Lolly was willing to marry me, and we found ourselves able to conceive children."

Still, he also notes, "But I want to point out that because I am gay, any lifestyle I choose is technically a 'gay lifestyle'...my hope is that other gay people will be as accepting of my choices as they hope others would be of their choices."

Telling "Nightline" that her husband first came out to her at age 16, Lolly explains in the interview, "When we're together in an intimate way, I'm just thinking of our love...it honestly doesn't matter what anyone else thinks because no one's there with us, and we are real."

Though the interview's repercussions remain to be seen, the Mormon Church's stance on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyles has been the subject of ample media commentary in recent months. In April, CNN's Dan Merica implied that the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were "subtly but unmistakably growing friendlier toward" the LGBT community, "including voicing support for some gay rights."

Also in April, an "It Gets Better" video produced by a group of gay Mormon students from Brigham Young University went viral in the blogosphere, while in June, over 300 Mormons who are not gay marched in the Utah Gay Pride Parade in downtown Salt Lake City.

The "Nightline" interview with Josh and Lolly Weed airs July 19 at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. For more information, click here.
