Homes For Sale At National Median Home Price (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Homes You Can Buy For $158,100

It's debatable whether or not the housing market is actually making a comeback.

What we do know, however, is that it's a buyer's market. Mortgage rates are falling to record lows as the frequency of home sales inches up at an alarmingly slow pace. Buying a home is now cheaper than renting one in nearly every city in the country.

The median price for a single-family home in a metro area was $158,100 in the first quarter of this year, according the National Association for Realtors. That's 0.4 percent less than what it was during last year's first quarter.

So, how much home can you get at the national median home price? That depends on where you're buying. We took a look at real estate site Trulia.com to survey home listings in different cities and found a large variation among what's on the market at that price.
