Ed Helms' 'Vacation': 'Office' Star Set To Play Clark Griswold's Son In New Film

Ed Helms' BIG Move

Did an internet rumor help Ed Helms find his next big movie? According to Variety, Helms is negotiating to star in "Vacation," an update of the National Lampoon franchise that starred Chevy Chase as weary traveler Clark Griswold. Helms would star as Clark's son Rusty, who was first played in "Vacation" by Anthony Michael Hall. (No word yet on whether Chase will return.)

Reports of Helms' involvement with the reboot were first discussed in May of 2011, but things picked up steam again in February.

"I have no idea how and where those rumors got started," Helms told Moviefone during the press tour for "Jeff Who Lives At Home" earlier this year. "I'm not aware of any conversations about me doing that movie."

As Variety notes, Helms wasn't discussing the film back then, as "Vacation" didn't have a director. Now it has two: John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein ("Horrible Bosses"), who will make their directorial debuts on "Vacation."

If you think rebooting "Vacation" is a bad idea, you're not alone. Helms himself expressed reservations back in February.

"I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. I'm not a big fan conceptually of remakes but anything's possible," he said to Moviefone, before adding that "anything done well is going to be good." For its part, it sounds like New Line isn't necessarily remaking "Vacation," but simply passing the franchise baton from Chase to Helms.

"I would never say never, but I'm not sure what's afoot with that project," Helms said.

It looks like he's sure now.
