WildLife, Capital Pride Parade And Street Festival: HuffPost DC Top 5 For June 8, 9, 10

TOP 5 FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 8

1. WildLife At Howard Theatre
A co-production beween Capital Pride and Brightest Young Things, this party will be everything you expect from BYT -- giant blown-up characters, giant characters on blow (maybe), good music, neon, etc. -- in a new forum. It's the first LGBT event at the Howard so it's unlikely that subtlety will reign supreme. 9 p.m., all ages, $25 to $30

2. Sharon Needles At Town
America's Next Drag Superstar is participating in a not officially part of Capital Pride event. Needles is doing for drag what Iggy Pop did for rock and roll. 10:30 p.m., 18+, $20

3. Sri Lankan Supper Club At Montserrat House
A large variety of home made cuisine from S.H. Fernando Jr., author of "Rice & Curry: Sri Lankan Home Cooking." The most delicious thing one can do this Friday. 7 p.m., all ages, $50

4. Bethesda Art Walk
A pleasant way to spend a Friday evening. Peek into the art galleries in Bethesda. 6 p.m., all ages, no cover

5. Greg Proops At D.C. Improv
The Smartest Man In The World continues his four night run at D.C.'s finest comedy club. 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., 18+, $25, also June 9 and 10

TOP 5 FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 9

1. Capital Pride Parade at Dupont Circle/P Street NW/17th Street NW
The flagship event for the two-week celebration, it's almost mandatory to attend. 4:30 p.m., all ages, no cover

2. Seersucker Social
The most well dressed, somewhat athletic nostalgia fest of the year. Make sure to participate. Your photos from the event will come in hand for Facebook, Tumblr and OK Cupid use. 12 p.m., all ages, no cover

3. The Black Maria: Selections From The Festival At National Gallery
Culled from the critically acclaimed festival. A sampling of documentaries and experimental shorts. 3:30 p.m., all ages, no cover

4. Drink Class At Columbia Room
It's a fact that drinking is fun but why not make it funner? This class will teach interested home bartenders how to use honey to make cocktails that much better. 2 p.m., 21+, $65

5. Ceremony, Screaming Females At St. Stephens
While it may be a little annoying to go to a church to see a show after the age of 21, it's not possible to get sick of many female-fronted punk bands. These two local acts are supporting some bands from Iceland. A very punk rock, very D.C. thing to do. 5 p.m., all ages, $12

TOP 5 FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 10

1. Capital Pride Street Festival
A giant street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue NW downtown that happens to be gay friendly. Family but not pet friendly, this event is estimated to be attended by 200,000. 11 a.m., all ages, $5 suggested donation

2. Bootsy Collins At The State Theater
Old Navy's finest spokesman will do his best to keep things funky. 8 p.m., 21+, $40

3. Matt Skiba And The Sekrets, Smoking Popes At Black Cat
Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba has a new band. With other members from AFI and My Chemical Romance, this side project isn't too much different than AK3. More polished, stadium-friendly athems, which isn't a bad thing. Openers Smoking Popes continue to garner the lip service they deserve for creating the template for acts like Alkaline Trio. The foursome still delivers power pop songs that woud make Cheap Trick proud. 7:30, all ages, $15 to $18

4. Make It Mount Pleasant
Indie craft markets. What hipsters do after the farmers market. Mock putting a bird on something all you want, it makes things cuter. 12 p.m., all ages, no cover

5. Allen Toussaint At Wolf Trap
The New Orleans living legend is coming to town. Good for fans of music and life. 2 p.m., all ages, $25
