Geoffrey Fieger, Michigan Lawyer, Sued By Ex-Partner Vernon Johnson

Dr. Kevorkian's Lawyer Sued By Former Partner

Geoffrey Fieger, Michigan's most attention-getting lawyer, will be back in the courtroom soon -- but this time as a defendant.

The Detroit News reports Fieger's former partner Vernon "Ven" Johnson sued after working at Feiger's firm for 16 years and quitting in May of 2011. Johnson makes several claims in his case, including that Fieger didn't release accounting records, berated clients and violated professional codes by mandating caseloads for lawyers and subjecting them to financial penalties.

It's not Fieger's first trial as a defendant, and last time, Johnson was on his side. The two stood trial together several years prior and were eventually acquitted of charges of violating campaign finance law by amassing $127,000 for John Edwards' 2004 presidential campaign.

Fieger faces pseudo-celebrity lawyer competition from other local attorneys, such as (1-800-Call-) Sam Bernstein, who enlists his whole family to star in ubiquitous TV ads, as well as Joumana Kayrouz, whose face is plastered on billboards and buses. Yet he's remained a household name even after a failed Michigan gubernatorial campaign in 1998 and his long-running representation of past client Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the assisted-suicide advocate who went to jail for second-degree murder.

According to Crain's Detroit Business, Johnson moved his firm, Johnson Law PLC, to the Buhl Building in downtown Detroit last month.

Johnson is seeking $25,000 in damages in his case, according to the News.
