How To Remove Skunk Odor From Outdoor Furniture

Remove This Common Stench Before It's Too Late

It's the pungent smell we all know and fear. And now eau de skunk is permeating from your patio furniture. Now what? You'll want to remove the scent as fast as possible, since the oily spray our odor-able friend left behind can last for two to three weeks. Also, the longer you wait, the harder the odor will be to neutralize. Instead, grab some gloves and possibly nose plugs and read our tips to de-skunk your backyard.

First, mix one-quart white vinegar with a quarter-cup baking soda and one-teaspoon dish detergent. Sponge the solution over your outdoor furniture. The mixture will counteract the oils in the skunk spray. Then, rinse off the furniture with a hose and wipe down to dry. If the stench reeks from the deck floor, mop with a solution made of 10 percent bleach and 90 percent water and rinse down with clean water. Once you've removed the source of the smell, combat the existing odor by using a store-bought deodorizer spray.
