Ed Schultz laid into Fox News on his show Wednesday night for airing an anti-Obama video on its morning program.
"Fox & Friends" aired a loaded, four-minute video that could easily double as a GOP attack ad criticizing President Obama's first term in office. The video was aired multiple times throughout the morning show. The producer who created the video was lauded by the show's hosts.
Fox News later issued a statement distancing themselves from the ad, attributing the video to an associate producer and saying that it had not been approved for air by the highest level of network executives. The network also pulled the video from the show's main website and aggregation site, FoxNation.com.
Schultz reaired parts of the video on his MSNBC show and said, "If there was ever any doubt that Fox News is an arm of the Republican party, it ended today when 'Fox and Friends' presented a retrospective of President Obama's first term." Schultz pointed out that the video received a ton of backlash, even from conservative commentators like Ed Morrissey.
"If anyone wanted to look for evidence that the overall Fox News organization intends to campaign against Obama rather than cover the campaign, this video would be difficult to refute," Morrissey said.
Schultz said Fox News distanced themselves from the video and alleged that Fox News chief Roger Ailes was not made aware of the video.
"The president of Fox News, Roger Ailes, is a career poltiical strategist. He's done it a long, long time," Schultz said. "Fox News gives him a platform to run a 24/7 political operation. This attack ad is just the latest blatant example. Now show me the balance, show me the fairness. It isn't gonna happen."
