My favorite things in life -- besides my wife and kids and the things one frequently does with one's wife in order to have kids -- are music and laughter. In recent months, I've had the pleasure of combining those two passions by appearing regularly on The Adam Carolla Podcast to talk music with Adam, Alison Rosen and Bald Bryan and to join in on the laughter of the funniest and most truthful podcast anywhere. One on one, Adam Carolla may not necessarily be the easiest man to get to know. Yet listen to Adam's consistently entertaining and insightful daily podcast -- seriously, go to iTunes and subscribe for free now -- or read his books, and trust me, you will know this man by heart.

As I see it, the emotional and comedic heart of this funny and painfully honest fellow is telling the truth, more specifically his truth -- at great length and with deeply unpretentious wit. I honestly think Adam Carolla may be the funniest guy I know, and with the possible exception of Yahoo Serious, I've met most of the funniest guys on Earth.

Now Adam is telling his truth again wonderfully in his latest thoroughly inspired book entitled Not Taco Bell Material. The follow-up to Carolla's New York Times bestseller In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks, this is the story of one man's bumpy yet funny journey from hopelessness to hope as told geographically. Here Carolla breaks up this pilgrim's progress by spotlighting the assorted residences -- or as Adam might say "shitholes" -- that he's lived in on his way to the top, or near enough to the top for now. In other words, these are the places in Adam's poisoned yet still somehow functional heart. It's an ingenious and grounded plan for Carolla, a recovering carpenter from humble even tangled roots to build the foundation for his ultimately uplifting tale. Spoiler Alert: Adam eventually overcomes his lousy childhood, marries the amazingly hot and sweet @LynetteCarolla, becomes world famous and even gets to hang out with the biggest stars in the world and me and Donald Trump, too. Or as Not Taco Bell Material's memorable subtitle so aptly puts it, "From a dump with a dirt lawn, a hero will rise . . ."

And so in honor of the June 12th publication of Not Taco Bell Material -- written by Adam and, as the cover notes, "As Shouted At Mike Lynch," I tweeted my 15,000 followers at @wildaboutmusic for their suggestions for some songs for this man called Ace. Here are some of mine and some of theirs -- including many great suggestions by Mike Lynch -- not including "Shout."
