Dwell Magazine's 'Now99' May 2012 Issue Spotlights Innovations Influencing Design (PHOTOS)

From Lights To Ceramics, See How The Best Minds Are Changing Design

It really is all about changes at the modern home magazine Dwell. Following their special issue on outdoor living, Dwell has now rounded up the best innovators and ideas that are changing the world of design in their latest May 2012 issue, which just hit newsstands.

Unlike most magazine's Top 100 lists, Dwell didn't just go for a rehash of famous people and places. Among the highlights are profiles on 27 up-and-comers that are mostly just getting noticed for their works. Of note are a Dutch designer by the name of Aldo Bakker whose unusual ceramic tableware (like a dish that resembles a chair seat) is featured on the cover of the new issue, and a couple in Brooklyn, New York, who designs spindly industrial light fixtures -- they look like nothing more than simple metal rods tied together -- for their small firm Workstead.

But most importantly, in an exclusive story, we're given a sneak peek inside iconic designer and healthcare advocate Michael Graves' New Jersey home. What's even better is that Dwell has filmed a short but inspiring video with Graves in his home as a follow up on dwell.com in which he discusses how his battle with paralysis has influenced his designs and works.
