MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell raged against GOP candidate Mitt Romney and his endorser, musician Ted Nugent, during his show Tuesday night.
In what O'Donnell called a "thought experiment," he opened a segment by quoting the latest round of incendiary statements Nugent made against President Obama, pretending the words were his own. "If you can't galvanize and promote and recruit people to vote for Barack Obama, we are done. We will be a suburb of Indonesia next year," O'Donnell said, adopting Nugent's language. "Mitt Romney, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell -- they're all criminals. We are patriots. We are braveheart. We need to ride into that battle field and chop their heads off in November." He added, "Cue the Republican outrage!"
After replaying a clip of Nugent's comments, O'Donnell wondered how Mitt Romney and the Republican party would act if he or democratic strategist Hilary Rosen would react if they had said such statements. "Here's how loud Mitt Romney's outrage was at his supporters not-so-veiled suggestion that he might just end up in jail for trying to kill President Obama if the President is re-elected, or he might end up dead, shot presumably by the Secret Service in his attempt to assassinate President Obama," O'Donnell said. "It turns out Mitt Romney himself couldn't summon any outrage over that at all."
O'Donnell railed against Romney for going after Nugent's endorsement, who he called "deranged" and a "gun nut from the craziest segment of the right wing." He said that it was important to Romney to have Nugent as an endorser because the GOP candidate used to be a supporter of certain forms of gun control. "Mitt Romney is now the only candidate to have an endorser that is being investigated by the Secret Service," O'Donnell said, referring to Nugent's aforementioned comments.
O'Donnell added that Romney and Nugent were similar in that they "both don't mean a word they say."
