Denim Jackets: The '80s Staple Is Back (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: The '80s Staple That You Need Now

Recently I asked my friend if she owned a jean jacket and her response was, "I did, of course. But I tossed it -- I'd never wear one now." A typical, but unfortunate answer, since the '80s mainstay is the perfect answer to this unpredictable weather.

Though denim has been a staple in American wardrobes since the 19th century, most of us associate the jackets with cultural references such as "Grease" or Madonna in "Who's That Girl?" Now we are seeing the iconic jacket on all the cool gals (if Miranda Kerr is wearing one, then you should be too). A denim jacket is like a grey sweatshirt: it tones down the fashion a bit, and gives that "Oh, I just threw this on" effect. We love nothing better than a taffeta ball gown skirt (because everyone owns one of those) with a casual jean jacket tossed over it, but we also love it paired with leather pants, or with something as casual as a maxi skirt. Feeling brave? Try out one of the topper's latest incarnations in neon yellow or a floral print. Here, our seven favorite jean jackets.
