Nick Gentry Turns Obsolete Technology Into Beautiful Art (PHOTOS)

When was the last time you saw a floppy disk in use? Nick Gentry makes gorgeous portraits from outdated technology with his social art project that turns form and function inside out.

While floppy disks were mostly regarded for the information they stored, the British artist turns the tables and has us examine their aesthetics instead. Gentry's work reflects on the quick pace of technology and how easily we forget what is deemed no longer useful. This idea made us think of Marshall McLuhan's 1969 interview with Playboy, where the tech-obsessed author stated, "My work is designed for the pragmatic purpose of trying to understand our technological environment and its psychic and social consequences."
