Kelli O'Laughlin Memorial Day: Town Designates April 2 In Slain Girl's Honor

Town Designates April 2 Memorial Day In Slain Girl's Honor

On what would have been her 15th birthday, Indian Head Park Mayor Richard Andrews will declare April 2 Kelli Joy O'Laughlin Memorial Day to honor the girl slain in her family's home last October.

O'Laughlin was found with multiple stab wounds late last year, after apparently interrupting a robbery in progress at her home when she returned from school.

Police have charged John L. Wilson with O'Laughlin's murder
after DNA evidence tied the 38-year-old with a long criminal history to the scene of the crime. In advance of his trial, enraged community members have begun circulating petitions demanding Illinois reinstate the death penalty if Wilson is convicted.

Burr Ridge Patch reports that the Chicago suburb of Indian Head Park, and surrounding communities, will conduct a moment of silence at 3 p.m. in O'Laughlin's memory, including students at Lyons Township High School, where she was a freshman.
