April Fools' Bomb Threat: Virginia Man Calls In Fake Shooting To California High School

Things Cops Don't Like: April Fools' Bomb Threats

Prank phone calls are funny -- most of the time.

Authorities in California say that a man dialed in a fake high school bomb threat on Sunday as a mischievous April Fools' Day joke.

Police set up a perimeter around Roseville High School after receiving at least two cell phone calls from a man later discovered to be a phony caller from Virginia.

Gunfire could also be heard in the background of the phone call.

"He said he there was a pipe bomb in the cafeteria, injured students, and that he had shot a couple of kids -- just random crazy stuff," Sgt. Darin Defreece told News10.

Units with the Roseville, Rocklin and Citrus Heights Police Departments all responded to the fake bomb threat. Paramedics, firefighters and a helicopter also arrived on the scene.

Authorities cleared out the entire campus but found nothing, determining that the call was actually a hoax.

Investigators later discovered that the call was made by a 30-year-old man with Autism as an April Fools' Day joke. It is reportedly not the first time the man has pulled this sort of stunt, according to KCRA.

Police did not seem to appreciate the man's sense of humor.

"It's never a good idea to prank call a police department," Defreece said. "We will find you."

Defreece added that the suspect will face civil and felony charges.
