Man Struck By Metrorail; University Of Miami Station Closed

The Metrorail station servicing the University of Miami has been shut down Monday morning after a fatality on the tracks.

"There is a man who was struck by a train. He was already on the tracks [when hit]," Miami-Dade Transit spokesperson Karla Damian told HuffPost.

Trains are running on a single track between Douglas Road and Dadeland South, including the University station where an investigation is ongoing.

Though trains are not stopping at University, Damien says passengers wishing to reach the station may get off at the South Miami stop and board a Transit shuttle bus for University.

It is not clear if the deceased intended to meet an oncoming train or if the incident was an accident.

The approximate duration of the closure was listed as "unknown" on the Miami-Dade Transit rider alerts page.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Miami police have identified the deceased as 59-year-old Raleigh J. Dupree. Authorities were notified by Metrorail personnel of the incident around 5:20 a.m. The death is currently unclassified, and the station has been re-opened.
