Kings Of Leon, Colbie Caillat, Others Bring Music Therapy To Sick Kids In Hospitals

To make sure sick kids get to listen to something more inspiring than the whirring of MRI machines, a few big-name music stars are bringing their tunes to hospital bedsides.

The Portland-based Children's Cancer Association recently unveiled MyMusicRx, a program that offers music therapy, hallway performances and free songs to children recovering at hospitals.

"Usually you'll be sitting in a hospital with some sort of medicine going into you with like a needle or something," Children's Cancer Association patient Hayley Bivins told KPTV. "So it involves like a distraction so you can have fun, but also be in a hospital, so it's not dragging on all day."

But musicians aren't just donating their work.

When patients peruse the "Band Together" section, they'll also find games, and hopeful messages from stars, including greetings from Foster the People, Colbie Caillat and Kings of Leon.

The program has teamed up iTunes, so that buyers can purchase songs through MyMusicRx and 5 percent of each download will be donated to the initiative. Music lovers can also suggest songs for patients profiled on the site, or add music to a child or teen's playlist.
