There's a vague sort of cosmological indication that the winner of the next election will be less predictable than one thinks, so don't rely too heavily on what the polls are showing today -- the current volatile and unnerving celestial climate is such that very last-minute surprises, volte-faces or curve balls could result in unusual voting conditions, bizarre developments, unexpected results, extraordinary tension in the election's aftermath (possibly up until the Inauguration Day), or just about anything else. Still, the candidate you think will win will probably win, but just don't put any money on it.

Without intending to publish it, I'd planned to make a solid prediction of the next US president to share with close friends, but I couldn't get a reliable time of birth for John McCain (supposedly 9 am). Barack Obama's birth certificate made his previously-debated time of birth a certitude. But that's not enough, at least for my comfort level, especially in this particular election, which is not too close to call but too weird to call.

Still, sometimes it is possible to make general predictions in absence of birth times. Sometimes a simple astrological sun sign suffices to convey a cosmic vantage. For example, it was clear a long time ago that the Fall of 2007 and all of 2008 would be challenging or inauspicious for many Geminis (Rudy Guiliani and John Edwards) and Pisces (Mitt Romney). What a poor time to be seeking the presidential party nomination! And, though he wasn't seeking popularity, Gemini Eliot Spitzer won't remember 2008 as one of his vintage years.

Timing really matters. If people were more aware of trends and timing, as indicated by their astrological birth charts (and the predictive techniques based upon them), they could have a better idea of when to push ahead and claim victory or pull back and retreat. I know that if I were thinking about investing my time and other people's money into a bid for the presidential nomination, I would look ahead to the year before the election to determine whether it was my time (or not).

Looking ahead to the Presidential Election of 2012 (occurring the day Mercury turns retrograde -- similar to what was happening during Election 2000), one can already start making some bets. The year leading up to November 2012, critical for potential nominees seeking approval, will be very favourable for current NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg. (His exact time of birth is available.) If he has ambitions to become President of the US, and if he is willing to reposition himself (if necessary), the 57th United States presidency could be his.
