Takeru Kobayashi may be able to boast scarfing down a record 69 hot dogs, but can he tackle the world of hamantaschen?

In celebration of Purim, fans of the traditional Jewish pastry gathered on the Upper East Side for the First National Hamantaschen Eating Championship, where competitors accepted the six-minute eating challenge to devour as many of the delicious, triangular pastries they could.

Rob “The Hebrew Hammer” Wizenberg eventually reigned as the hamantaschen king and took home the first place prize of a round-trip flight to Israel. Mazel tov!

The annual Jewish holiday pays tribute to their harrowing escape from destruction in the ancient Perisan Empire and is often likened to Halloween for its encouragement of costumes.
