George Howard, Chicago Teen, Killed In Shooting: Three Others Wounded

Teen Killed, 3 Wounded In South Side Shooting

A 15-year-old Chicago boy was killed and three others were wounded when a gunman opened fire in an apartment building on the city's South Side.

George Howard, of the 5100 block of South King Drive, was fatally wounded in the shooting in the 300 block of East 53rd Street around 8 p.m. Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports. Another boy, 14, was shot in the shoulder and taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in serious-to-critical condition. Two other men, 20 and 33 years old, were treated for non-serious wounds and released from the hospital.

Patricia Strange, the mother and grandmother of two of the shooting survivors, told the Chicago Sun-Times that shootings in the area have been taking place "regularly."

Another area resident Shakitta Thompson told ABC Chicago the shooting made her "nervous for her own kids."

"I don't get it, like, what would possess you to shoot a child like that?" Thompson told ABC. "Our kids can't go to school like that."

Police told the Tribune that the shooting appeared to be gang-related. No arrests have yet been made.
