Shiny new Marlins Park is looking nearly ready for pitchers and catchers with the laying of the field's first plots of sod (and it better, say strapped Miami taxpayers). Beat reporters got a look at the parks' fresh plugs of grass, press box, scoreboard, Cribs-ready fish tank backstops, and that infamous Red Grooms home run feature in a Thursday morning tour, watching team officials drop healthy squares of Celebration Bermuda on the team's new infield. According to the Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi, the Marlins tested out Celebration Bermuda before choosing it by planting experimental patches last year in the ballpark's parking lot. Since the public can't take a look before the park officially opens March 5 with a high school exhibition game between Christopher Columbus and Belen Jesuit Prep, check out images from today's tour, along with a few choice tweets:
