Madonna has had a busy few weeks, crafting her Super Bowl halftime performance and gearing up for the release of the new film she directed, "W.E.," which is something that even the queen of cool admits makes her nervous.
"I am aware that I am not a seasoned director and that the world is waiting to see my film and they are not going to blow any smoke up my behind," Madonna told me when I sat down with her for my HDNet talk show "Naughty But Nice With Rob." "But on the other hand, I am very proud of the work I have done and I stand by it and I am sure that it will find its audience."
The film focuses on the controversial relationship between Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American woman, and King Edward VIII, who abdicated his throne to marry her -- a subject that Madonna wanted to explore from Wallis' point of view.
"I think that people didn't really understand Wallis Simpson, and I think that everyone conveniently blamed it on her," Madonna said. "I felt that it was a story to tell on many levels. One, to examine the idea that there is no such thing as a perfect love and two, to explore the idea that nothing is as it seems and if you really want to know somebody or understand a situation, you are going to have to be willing to put in the time and the research. Just like it takes time to get to know a person, right?"
So would Madonna be willing to give up her throne for love? "I would find a way to have it all," she said, without missing a beat.
