Sofia Coppola's First Marni For H&M Ads, And Other Film Director-Fashion Collabs

Sofia Coppola's First Marni For H&M Ad & Other Directors' Fashion Collabs

The first ad for Marni's much anticipated collaboration with H&M surfaced Friday, and we're not sure what we've been anticipating more: A glimpse of the prints that the line will offer, or the campaign itself, directed by Sofia Coppola, whose work we've admired in films like "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette."

In fact, it's been a big week for fashion-and-film collaborations. Just a few days earlier, Missoni tapped acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar to star in its spring campaign (perhaps as a nod to the collection's flamenco influences). Almodovar models alongside the Missoni clan in a series of tableaux shot by Juergen Teller at Madrid's Villa Rosa, a site that appeared in his 1991 film, "High Heels."

The ads got us thinking about the other filmmakers who've collaborated with fashion brands. Dior enlisted David Lynch to shoot promotions for Lady Dior, Chanel recruited Oscar winner Martin Scorsese for a fragrance commercial and Proenza Schouler teamed with "Kids" director Harmony Korine.

We've rounded up some of the most memorable examples. Watch the videos below and tell us, does watching a favorite director's work make you more excited about a collection?
