A 33-year-old Chicago man suspected in two fatal shootings Friday night in Chicago was found dead of an apparent suicide in the near north suburb of Evanston.
Donte Simmons, a resident of the city's Rogers Park neighborhood, was found by a man shoveling snow in an alley near his home in the 100 block of Clyde Avenue in Evanston, the Chicago Tribune reports. He appeared to have shot himself in the head in what police say was likely a suicide.
Simmons was wanted by Chicago police for allegedly murdering Troy Cameron, 22, just before 10 p.m. Friday. At the time of the slaying, Cameron was working as a security guard at a Walgreens store, located at 315 W. Chicago, in the city's River North neighborhood, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Walgreens spokesman Robert Elfinger said in a statement, as reported by NBC Chicago, that his company was "deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with our employees' family."
Detectives also connected Simmons to the slaying of a second man in his 20s near the border of Rogers Park and Evanston, in the 1800 block of West Juneway Terrace -- two blocks from where the suspected shooter lived -- just before 11 p.m. Friday, according to the Tribune.
