What do hardcore punk rockers from Los Angeles scream about? In hardcore band It's Casual's case, the freeways.
Whether you're into discordant music or not, you have to give props to the East Los Angeles band for shouting about real issues. As seen in the music video above, "Red Line," as described by the band's Myspace page, "flags the horrors of freeway traffic when suitable alternatives already exist." And, if that wasn't "legit" enough, lead singer and guitarist Edward Solis actually doesn't own a car. As the music video demonstrates, he rides public transportation or his skateboard.
"Red Line" appears on the band's new album, The New Los Angeles, which the band says was inspired by Sollis riding public transportation. The album is "nothing more than a hard, plastic seat perched aside an etched window and his keen observations."
As the band's Myspace bio lays out, others tracks on the album that comment on LA issues include:
..the title track, which reveals a lack of communication amongst residents. Child negligence concerns are addressed via "Too Many Kids,"... "L.A.P.D." speaks of law enforcement's scramble (and sometimes failure) to protect a city bursting at its seams and "Navigator" points the finger at those who parade the streets with just a facade of wealth.
