U.S. and Afghan Troops Dance Off

There are days in Afghanistan when U.S. and Afghan forces are not in firefights with insurgents, neither are they sniffing out roadside bombs, or raiding weapons caches.

Sometimes they're just dancing...

A few weeks ago I found myself at a party the 2nd Zone Afghan Border Police at Forward Operating Base Gardez threw for the U.S. soldiers of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Special Troops Battalion as they prepared to return home to Ft. Knox, KY.

During their deployment the 3-1 Soldiers provided more than 800 Afghan troops with medical, team leader, and military intelligence training. The party-- that featured a deliciously stewed slaughtered goat -- was the 2nd Zone ABP's way of saying thank you.

In the middle of the festivities, a U.S. soldier dressed in Perahan Tunban, that's the traditional Afghan shirt and pants, tried to dance off with an Afghan Border Policeman but clearly proved no match for him.
