Could Body Found In Fox River Be Son Of A Green Bay Packers Coach?

An unidentified male body has been pulled from the Fox River in Wisconsin near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus. There is speculation the victim could be the missing son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

The Winnebago County Dive Team brought the body to shore about 3 p.m. Monday. The body, which is believed to be that of a 20- to 25-year-old man, was recovered about 30 yards from shore, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.

"This subject does match the description given for the individual who was reported to have gone through the ice in the search area," said Sgt. Tim Eichman. "The identification of this subject has not been confirmed at this point."

Eichman referred additional questions to the Oshkosh Police Department. That agency did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

A large-scale search effort was launched early Sunday morning, after an Axle Tech security guard called police about 2:30 a.m. to report he had heard someone calling for help from the Fox River. Recovery crews spent the last two days searching the icy waters.

Although the sheriff's department has not identified the body, WBAY-2 News reports the only person known to be missing in the area is 21-year-old Michael Philbin of Ripon, who was last seen at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

The body was taken by the Winnebago County Coroner for identification.
