Marc Jacobs: Not Taking The Dior Job 'Was Probably The Best For Everyone'

Marc Jacobs Dishes On Not Taking That Dior Job

Now that those rumors of Marc Jacobs absconding to Dior to replace John Galliano have been firmly squashed -- and the buzz transferred over to Jil Sander honcho Raf Simons -- Marc Jacobs is finally spilling on what went down behind the scenes.

He told Vogue last month that he thought the Dior job to be "archaic," and the current Louis Vuitton creative director opened up further, albeit coyly, to Telegraph recently about how he almost made the move:

"It's a great honour to be considered, and [LVMH and Dior chairman Bernard] Mr Arnault is a super intelligent man and a very smart man and it was certainly a very great honour for him to know that I was capable - and not only capable but that I am someone that he would have wanted for the job. But I am very happy to be here. There is so much more left to do and building Louis Vuitton into a fashion company is something nobody else can say they really started."

That's it? We want to hear about cat fights!

Jacobs shares that he's thrilled to still be at Louis Vuitton, but he remains mum about what really happened with Dior:

Jacobs adds: "I am really happy and I do love working here. I just think there is so much more to do."

So was it his choice? "Well... it's a little bit more complicated than that ... but we agreed that it was probably best for everyone."

Marc! You're such a tease.

But it's not like Jacobs has been twiddling his thumbs in between designing handbags: he's rumored to be playing a "porn baron" in a new indie movie and hanging out on the beach with his ex and a $10,000 handbag; he also had to contend with his spring 2012 collection being pilfered from a train.
