Pat Lee Safety: Packers Kick Returner Makes Embarrassing Mistake Against Lions (VIDEO)

Packers Kick Returner Makes Biggest Bonehead Play Of Season

We're just one day into the new year and we may have already seen what might be the dumbest sports fail of 2012. On the ensuing kickoff following Detroit's first touchdown of Sunday's season finale against the Packers, Green Bay kick returner Pat Lee stood a few yards into the end zone and inexplicably let the ball bounce first before picking it up.

That was his first mistake. The ball ended up taking a bad bounce and went off Lee's leg, rolling back past the goal line.

Then Lee made his second mistake, reached out to grab the ball and brought it back into the end zone before taking a knee.

Of course, the Lions immediately realized what had happened and made their case to the referees. After a brief meeting, the officials ruled it a safety, giving Detroit two more points and the ball back.

However, Lee's blunder came early enough in the game to allow backup quarterback Matt Flynn to throw six (that's right, SIX) touchdown passes to lead the Packers to a sweep over the Lions.
