But on Tuesday when architectural firm Snohetta released a video and renderings further revealing the plan, including interior details, it became clear that we have underestimated this project.

According to the new plans, the firm will create a seamless extension of the museum by removing the enormous granite staircase in the atrium. Two main entrances will lead to a large, open central area that will introduce visitors to the galleries and education areas. Outside, the building will be signature Snohetta with a creamy, dramatic exterior sweeping along the skyline.

But we're most excited about the Howard Street glass gallery that will allow visitors to view parts of the collection from the outside, even when the museum is closed. Our coffee break just got a lot more interesting.
