Bill Maher To Letterman: Elisabeth Hasselbeck 'Traumatized' Me, But I Like Her (VIDEO)

WATCH: Maher's Surprising Reaction To Hasselbeck Fight

Bill Maher reacted to his awkward "View" appearance on Tuesday when he appeared on "Late Night With David Letterman."

Maher was on "The View" promoting his new book when Hasselbeck turned his segment into a full-on confrontation for what she found to be an insensitive joke he made about her in February 2011.

Letterman asked Maher what had happened, and Maher said that Hasselbeck had "a bug up her ass." He also jokingly said that he was "traumatized," "abused," and felt "like a teenage boy at Penn State." (Too soon?)

The upside of the confrontation, according to Maher, was that it led to an overwhelmingly supportive response from his Twitter followers who he said "usually hate him."

Maher defended his initial joke that upset Hasselbeck while speaking to Letterman and said that he was "only kidding." Maher then somewhat surprisingly added that he really "does like her a lot," and that they have a relationship where they "play like they hate each other" on television.

Letterman likened their relationship to "big time wrestling." Maher agreed and said, "it makes the sex hotter."
