A lawyer for Conrad Murray says that the former doctor to Michael Jackson will appeal yesterday's conviction of involuntary manslaughter, the Associated Press reports.
Lead defense attorney Ed Chernoff told reporters that the verdict, which arrived after just nine hours of deliberation, was a disappointment.
Nareg Gourjian, another defense lawyer for Murray, said that while his client was "devastated" by the guilty verdict, he is "confident" in his chances to win an appeal, according to CNN.
On Tuesday, conflicting accounts surfaced regarding whether Murray, who is being held in a high security medical facility, was placed on suicide watch.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the Murray was, in fact, under suicide watch, while KTLA said that Murray had merely been placed in isolation.
"What matters most right now is trying to keep Dr. Murray from taking up a prison cell in this community," Chernoff told CNN. "That's what we're focusing on right now and we'll deal with an appeal after that."
As it stands, Murray, who holds no prior criminal record, faces a sentence ranging from probation to four years in prison.
The sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 29.
