Halloween Can Drive Brings In More Than Double Amount Of Food Expected

WASHINGTON -- Remember that Halloween food collection drive led by George Washington University senior Jake Stewart? It turns out his prediction for how many cans he'd collect -- 4,320 pounds -- was way off. In all, Stewart and his volunteer colleagues brought in a whopping 7,542 pounds. That's more than two and a half times more than collected at last year's Trick or Treat for Service.

"I am actually legitimately surprised at the amount," a flabbergasted Stewart told The Huffington Post. So was the Capital Area Food Bank, which had to come back for a second pickup before it managed to fit everything in its large truck.

Despite the surprise snow that hindered collection on Oct. 29, nearly 200 volunteers from area universities showed up for the charity event.
