Virginia Tea Party Targets Democrats In Television Ad

WASHINGTON -- With Virginia's legislative elections two weeks away, Tea Party activists are targeting Democratic state Senate candidates in Northern Virginia. According to The Washington Post, a television ad from the Virginia Tea Party Alliance's political action committee is hitting the television air waves this week, linking seven Democrats to President Obama "accusing them of supporting 'Obamacare,' 'in-state tuition for illegals' and more programs, regulations and taxes."

While Republicans control the commonwealth's House of Delegates, Democrats currently hold a narrow 22-18 majority in the Senate.

In September, the Virginian-Pilot noted how the Virginia Tea Party Alliance hoped to help the GOP claim a Senate majority in the November elections. "Many pundits and operatives think that the best Republicans and conservatives can hope for this year in Virginia is picking up 2-3 seats," Karen Miner Hurd, the alliance's executive director, said in a statement quoted by the Norfolk newspaper. "We feel very strongly that conservatives can pick up as many as nine seats currently held by Democrats."

In a recent posting on the alliance's website, Hurd chastised President Obama for his "awful policies."

Yessir, Mr. President, without you, none of this would be possible. In fact, the awful policies you have pushed on the American People, like Obamacare, are so disliked, that almost all Democrats in Virginia (except Shawn Mitchell and Sen. Ralph Northam) don't want you around. You know what? We don't either. Look at the ad that will be released by the Virginia Tea Party Alliance - linking every Democrat in Northern Virginia right to you, whether they like it or not. - And most of them don't!
