Yale Political Union

Nonpartisan debating society

The Yale Political Union is a nonpartisan debating society modeled on the Oxford and Cambridge Unions and is the only debating society of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1934, the Yale Political Union remains the center of student debate on campus. The Yale Political Union holds weekly student debates with an invited guest, and each of the seven parties within the Union holds its own student debate each week. Recent notable guests at the Yale Political Union include Justice Antonin Scalia, New York Times editor Bill Keller, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and the late William F. Buckley.
