William Want

Law Professor

William Want is a Professor at the Charleston School of Law where he teaches Constitutional Law, Land Use and Administrative Law. He is a 1970 graduate of Yale Law School. Before becoming a law professor in 2005, he was an environmental attorney, working 9 years in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Justice Department. Subsequently to that and until becoming a law professor, he had a solo environmental law practice based in Charleston, S.C. in which he represented environmental groups, industry and government. Mr. Want is the author of the treatise, The Law of Wetlands Regulation (Thomson/West, 2014 ed.) and a co-author of the book, Hazardous Waste: Confronting the Challenge (Quorum Press, l987). In 1989, he was awarded the Lyndhurst prize worth $120,000 for his contributions to environmental protection and he has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America compilation in the environmental category for twenty-five years. Mr. Want was a founding board member of two major environmental organizations: the Southern Environmental Law Center and the South Carolina Conservation League.
