Steve Zack

Senior Conservation Fellow, Wildlife Conservation Society

Steve Zack is a Senior Conservation Fellow with Wildlife Conservation Society, where he previously served as Coordinator of Bird Conservation. From 1998 to 2012, Steve was part of WCS’s North America Program, developing and leading the Arctic Alaska program, initiating the Grassland Birds and Bison project, and working in forest, riparian, and oak woodland conservation issues with a bird focus. Steve earned his B.S. from Oregon State University (1978), his PhD from the University of New Mexico (1985), and was with Yale University in the Biology Department from 1989 to 1993. He has considerable international research experience: two years in Kenya, four years in Venezuela, and parts of six years in Madagascar prior to joining WCS. With WCS, Steve has also worked in South Korea, Argentina, and Cuba. Steve has published widely, and is an avid wildlife photographer.
