Stephanie March

Stephanie March is an actress noted for her sharply intelligent and sympathetic portrayals of a variety of female characters in television, film and theater.

March is reprising her role as Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot on “Law & Order: SVU” for 10 episodes beginning this fall. March created the enormously popular role of Alex Cabot in 2000 and continued in that capacity until the end of 2003. She returned to TV in 2006 as Alex Cabot in NBC’s “Conviction.” Other recent/future TV credits include a role as tortured mother on ABC’s hit show “Grey’s Anatomy” and a psychic opposite Dennis Leary in “Rescue Me.”

March can also be seen in THE INVENTION OF LYING. The film stars Tina Fey, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, and Ricky Gervais. March plays opposite Gervais as the hilarious dupe in his plot to take over a world that does not understand lying or sarcasm. March’s funnier side can also be seen opposite Tina Fey on the multiple award winning show “30 Rock” wherein she plays the unsuspecting lesbian blind date to Fey’s hapless Liz Lemon.

March has spent much of the last two years in the theater. In 2007 she made a return to Broadway opposite Liev Schreiber in the multiple Tony award nominated revival of Eric Bogosian’s “Talk Radio.” This role marked a reunion with her “Death of a Salesman” director, Tony winner, Robert Falls. In 2008 she co-starred with Rhys Coiro and Jason Biggs in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway revival of Howard Korder’s “Boys’ Life” as “Maggie” the pot smoking, bad girl whose character has an affair with Coiro.

March has also appeared in the thriller “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” opposite Angelina Jolie, starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and directed by Doug Liman. She was in the hit comedy “Head of State, “ co-starring Chris Rock and Bernie Mac. Other films include “Flannel Pajamas” with Julianne Nicholson and Justin Kirk; “East Broadway”, directed by Faye Ann Lee; and “The Treatment”, directed by Oren Rudavsky and starring Sir Ian Holm and Famke Janssen. “The Treatment” and “East Broadway” both premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival.

March spends a significant amount of time as an activist for causes benefiting women and education. She is on the advisory board of OneKid OneWorld, an organization that rebuilds schools for children in Kenya and Central America. She has been on the board of directors of Safe Horizon for six years—an organization that promotes justice and provides support for victims of violent crime. March has also tutored children at the Harlem Village Academies in New York and is deeply committed to bringing quality education to children in local and global communities.

March is a graduate of Northwestern University. Despite being a proud, native Texan she resides in New York City (where it is often very cold) with her husband, chef Bobby Flay.
