Sonny Singh is a social justice educator, writer, and musician based in Brooklyn, NY. He has been active in movements for social and economic justice since high school and has worked as an organizer for a number of labor and community organizations in New York. Sonny has been designing and facilitating workshops and classes related to issues of oppression and strategies for creating social justice for over 15 years and is on the training teams for Race Forward and Border Crossers. Sonny regularly writes essays and articles on race, religion, and social justice for a variety of publications including the Huffington Post, India Abroad, The Langar Hall, Colorlines, Sikh Chic, Left Turn, Asian American Literary Review. Race, Class, and Gender in the United States (9th Edition), and Open City Magazine. He was also a 2014-2015 Open City Fellow for the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, covering stories in Richmond Hill, Queens. Sonny is also a trumpet player, singer, and dhol player, and an original member of the bhangra brass band, Red Baraat.
