Scott F. Gilbert

Embryologist and Professor at Swarthmore College

Scott F. Gilbert is the Howard A. Schneiderman Professor Emeritus of Biology at Swarthmore College, and a Finland Distinguished Professor at the University of Helsinki. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and has received the Kowalevsky Medal for his research. He has also received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Helsinki and Tartu. Dr. Gilbert is the author of the textbook Developmental Biology (now in its tenth edition), and has co-authored Ecological Developmental Biology and Bioethics and the New Embryology.
