Randy Eddy-McCain was raised in the Assembly of God denomination. He pursued his desire to be in ministry until he started to come to terms with his gay orientation. This struggle, which spanned years, culminated in Randy reconciling his love for Jesus and his sexual orientation. In 1992 Randy was united in Holy Union with his longtime friend, Gary.

In 1996 Randy founded Open Door Community Church in Little Rock AR. and has served as senior pastor for 18 years.

In 1998 he became a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the state of Arkansas over the state’s sodomy law which criminalized gay/lesbian citizens. After four years the plaintiffs won their fight.

In 2012, after 20 years together, Randy and Gary were legally married in New York City. The nuptials took place in Central Park with Jay Bakker (son of Jim and Tammy Faye) officiating. Randy had been honored to conduct Jay’s mother’s funeral in 2007.

In 2013 Randy and Gary became plaintiffs in another lawsuit against the state of Arkansas for its ban on gay marriage.

In 2014 the plaintiffs were victorious and for a week gay marriages were legally performed before a stay was issued. This made Arkansas the first Bible Belt state to do so. Randy performed 106 of the over 600 weddings that took place during those few days.

Randy and Gary have one son, Bobby They live in North Little Rock AR.
